Problems loading httpd

I've installed apache on Slackware Linux. I downloaded and installed the precompiled binaries without a hitch. My problem now is when i type in:
./apachectl configtest
i get:
./apachectl: /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd: No such file or directory

The problem is httpd IS IN THE DIRECTORY. what am i forgetting to do? any help would be appreciated!
