I have been trying to install OSS646b from media images ona customer's system and having strange problems. I have placed all 1 VOL files in a dir /tmp/oss646b then run custom choosing their system and putting in ->media images->then entering the path to the file /tmp/oss646b. I get thos message when I hit enter to install.I get the message:

"There is no software on the media to install". Originally the files were sent on a cd to the customer. I have since downloaded them from our ftp server, then sco's ftp server running sums on each file after the download. I am at a loss I have tried installing several other media images to see if custom is broken but each one installs without a problem. I have installed OSS646b on about 50 5.0.5-> 5.0.6 machines without a problem so I do not think it is anything I am doing wrong. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I have also tried:
custom -i -p `grep "^PROD:" VOL.000.000 |head -1 |cut -d: -f2,3` -z /tmp/oss646b
with the same result

I am positive it was in binary mode, I transferred it 4 times so far from 2 different servers and once from cd all with the same result.....

Please if anyone has any other input it would be greatly appreciated, I am this close to doing a remote re-install with the customer over the phone, this would truly suck and take 8+ hours including 3rd party software....any ideas????

The following is from SCO's knowledgebase TA 109622. I think I may have also seen this when the system date was wrong during install of a package. Good Luck, if you haven't reinstalled already...

When attempting to install a software package, custom(ADM) checks its install status is by looking in the directory:

/usr/lib/custom/customDBCache

There are sub-directories within this directory that contain information about products that have been previously installed.

This error occurs because custom(ADM) has found a sub-directory that matches the software you are trying to install, but it finds nothing in there.

In the past, installation of a product may have failed ungracefully and left an entry in customDBCache. Look in this directory and remove (or move) the sub-directory that matches the software you are trying to install, and try the installation again.

Thanks for the great tip removed the dir and the install went further now I get this error:

\) Patch "SCO:Unix OSS646B.506.SCO.Unix" can not be applied to "SCO:Unix
5.0.5Eb". Component is in an invalid state.

I am going to try a thorough system check and see if that helps.

I am also getting the message "SCO:Unix 5.0.5Eb". Component is in an invalid state.
Did you ever find out what to do about it?
