I am trying to setup an 8x24 with DR5.1. I have no experience with telecom equipment so I am just assuming here. In order to program the unit, i just need to plug in a M7310 and I should get some sort of display. Is this a correct? All I get is the indicators are flashing. Nothing else. Is this normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

No that is not normal. The set should stop flashing after a several seconds. Are you sure you`ve hooked it up to the station ports? If you have, power down and make sure you have the software seated in the ksu properly. Also, make sure the none of the pins on the software/ksu are bent. (I can`t recall if the pins are on the software cartridge or the ksu) That could be the reason for them not coming up.

By station ports you mean the 24 side. If so yes, I am plugged into port 1 or 101 according to the reference manual. I tried other ports to and the same thing. I checked everything like you said and nothing is wrong physically. Could the module not be working?

Have you tried a different telephone to rule that possibility out? I believe the software cartridge comes in 2 pieces, and I hope you have both in there, not just the one that fits into the ksu, but the one that fits into that one to make it one piece that then goes into the ksu. You may want to try swapping out the amphenol to make sure that`s ok. I`m not sure what the amphenol is terminated on, but make sure you`re using the white/blue, white/orange, white/green pairs etc for your connetions to the phones. That`s all the suggestions I can think of. If all looks good, you would appear to have a defective unit, either the ksu or software or both.

Sorry, one more thing. Try hooking up a jack right at the ksu to eliminate any chance of it being an inside wire problem.

I ran into something similar a couple weeks ago. In my instance I had a bad data cartridge (the larger half). The software cartridge, which fits into the data cartridge, was fine. I just had to replace the data cartridge. If the software is good, you should see date/time diplay within 5-10 minutes.

I seem to remember seeing a discussion thread about 2-3 months ago where the person had a used 8X24 system that was stuck on the start up sequence of flashing lights. The tech opened up the KSU and reseated all the connectors and that fixed the start up trouble. Anyone remember this thread also?

Are you sure it is dr5? I know the units don't like to go backwards on software. For instance, if it was once dr5 then you try to install dr1, it will just keep blinking like you said. You can also short the battery in the s/w cartridge to try to set it back to default and then try it again.

good luck!
