Hi

A user at our company has a rather strange issue with MS Word 2000.

He creates a new document.
He saves the document.

He then format's the document further eg: Centers and Bold's a heading. He then saves and closes the document.

When he comes back to it later the formatting is still there. Fine!

If he roboots his pc and then opens that same document, the document is a mess (spacing, paragraphs etc are all messed up)

At the end of his document is a load of text which reads:

Any idea what this is?
I thought it may be a corrupt document but it seems to happen for all documents.

Arrgh!

Any ideas/suggestions?

Hmmm,interesting problem,
Can you do a search for a file called normal.dot (you may have to change the folder options to view all files) rename it to normal..old
Restart the PC.
See if that works.
Have u ran a full virus scan as well?

Ensure that when he opens the document the drop down box at the very bottom of the open dialog box has selected 'Word Documents' (or similar) not 'recover text from any file'.

Thank you Kippy 13 and Emily for your suggestions.

I will try the normal.dot method later.

Just an update: (I should have mentioned the floppy disk first!)

Update:

If I save an edited document to the hard drive and reboot, everything is fine.

If I save the document (edited) to a floppy disk and reboot, the problem happens ie all formatting lost and nonense text at the end of the document.

The problem originally occured with the floppy drive when saving.

In other words, If I create a new word document and save it to my floppy disk it saves fine. I open it from the floppy and make a change eg Bold a heading.

I close and reopen the document from the floppy and the Bold is still there. Fine.

I reboot my pc and open the document from the floppy. The formatting is lost and the nonsense text is at the bottom of the document. So something must happen when I reboot?

If I repeat the above process saving the document to my Hard Drive all works fine!

Now I'm reeeeeeally confused!

So this is only happening on a floppy.....have you tried another floppy?
It could be damaged.....
