I'm swapping out an old computer that runs Windows 95 with a new DELL that runs Windows XP Pro. This system is used to administer a FS9600 pbx using emml. I can't get emml to communicate to the FS9600 on the new system.
I've tried three different COM port solutions: a USB 2.0 adapter, a Lava serial card, and most recently a serial card that remaps the old ISA memory ranges COM ports. Every COM port system that I've tied ends up the same: emml hangs for 30 seconds and then reports 'communication error'.
With each COM solution I've:
1. made sure that there are no IRQ conflicts.
2. Configured low COM port numbers (in the 1 thru 4 range).
3. Made sure that all old COM drivers were removed.
4. Made sure that the device manager configuration matched the old setup (9600/8/n/1/Xon).
5. Run the emml config utility to make sure it matched the device manager configuration.
6. Run the emml software in both regular mode and the '95 compatability mode.
7. Tried multiple COM ports (for the multiport cards).
I've installed a software serial port monitor and I can see the emml program opening the correct port.
If I attach back to the old system, everything works perfectly.
The old box is using IRQ 4, the new one is using 11. I haven't found a way to force XP into letting me pick the IRQ for the COM ports, but as far as I know, that shouldn't make a difference.
The emml version is V02L01C01. The FS9600 manual lists this program as compatible with '95 and '98.
Is there a newer version I can get my hands on?
Has anybody been able to get this software working on XP?
Would installing linux on this box and using WINE work?
Any advice or guidance is appreciated!
