Problems Exporting Access data as an Excel Spreadsheet

I have an Access 2000 database which track two types of env. samples: air and bulk. I have it set up to send data to a preset e-mail address in Excel format (.xls). The air sample part of the database, with significantly more fields per record, runs the operation fine at 100 records a pop. The bulk sample part has less fields and I'm only trying to send 25 records at a time using the same approach as the air samples. However, about 50% of the time, the report hangs where I see Outputting Object... hanging around on the task bar and no apparent progress. If I leave it long enough, sometimes minutes, it might go through but the resulting Excel files comes in and displays the following message upon trying to open it: <<Name>>.xls is an invalid data format.

Other times the report goes out readily enough but the same error message appears when I try to open the resulting Excel file in Outlook.

Any ideas why this is occurring? Unfortunately, it occurs rather randomly...

Thanks
Peter

Have you tried building a Macro using the outputto command to output it to an excel file?

Otherwise you can output it to a .txt file and open it in Excell.

It may be that the file is too large for excel to open.
