Problems deleting a page in a book document

When I delete a page within my book document shouldn't that break the threads? When I deleted the page the blank page was still showing with the threads even though the page number had decreased by one. When I clicked on the ports, a loaded text icon appeared with text from my first chapter, which doesn't make sense. Also, when I clicked on the in port or the out port with the selection tool to break the threads it loaded with the red box and the arrow, then I noticed that all the text from the rest of the book had disappeared -- apparently into the red box. But that isn't really the problem because I can undo that. It is deleting the page correctly that is my problem. Thank you.

Are you deleting the page by selecting the text and pressing the backspace or are you using the pages panel to remove the page?

You say the book document, are you using the book panel or are you talking specifically about the a page in your book that is a document?

Eugene, thank you for answering. First of all, the book was converted from Pagemaker to InDesign by a person because the pictures weren't turning out well, and he enhanced them. All would have been well, however, in the process he moved the pictures to other spots and the font was a bit smaller too. Then he sent me all the files back. I don't know InDesign and downloaded a trial copy. So the pages I am trying to delete are blank because of moving pictures, or text not needing the extra pages. I am using the pages panel, selected a page to delete, then deleting by way of the trash can. Then the book page number goes down by one, but the blank page shows it is still there. I have tried and tried to break the threads by clicking on the ports. When I click on the outport of the blank page I get a loaded text icon that contains text from page 3, and the page I'm trying to delete is page 110. How the text block got into this page I don't know. It shows blank until I try to do this procedure. So I keep using Edit -- Undo, until I am back to where I was, because when I try to get rid of the text box it also deletes the material on pages following page 110. If I could only break the threads to the blank pages without these complications I think the pages would delete correctly. I hope this makes sense. I am very frustrated so I would be grateful for help!

Well when you delete a page from the pages panel you're removing a page from the document so a 32 page document will be reduced to 31 pages for every page you delete.

What's probably happened is because the text frames are linked there is probably a page break in on that blank page.

Go to TYPE>SHOW INVISIBLE CHARACTERS

The page break looks lik this ^ and you should be able to see it.

Then select it with the type tool and press back space.

This won't affect how many pages you have in the document. But removing pages via the pages panel will.

Eugene,
You are a genius. I backspaced over page break and that deleted the page. Wow! No one else that I asked even thought of that. I spent hours trying to figure it out. When I typed the book I just let it flow from page to page. Don't know where the page breaks came in, or maybe they come in automatically. Thanks so, so much! Arlene
