Let me start by saying I am very new to Linux. The problem I am having is when I try to copy to or from a Windows share in a domain setting I get the following error message:

Error "Not a directory" while copying "smb://testserver/test...id%20Help%20Desk.doc".

testserver = the server I am copying from
test = the windows share
help desk.doc = the file I am trying to copy

I have this problem regardless of the file.
Things I have tried already include:
Making the share from windows full control (read/write/modify) rights. When the share connects I am prompted to include my windows authentication as well so it appears to be something other than authentication?
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

well.. you can moun the windows share from the linux box:

mount -t smbf -o username="domain\user",password="password" //server/folder /mnt

Cheers.

Chacalinc,

Sorry to be dense, but after I complete the command I do not see the mount point, icon of any type, visable to me. I still see the samba share I created earlier but do I now need to execute a command or create something to allow easy browsing of tht mount point?

ok, in command line issue [tt]df -h[/tt] and you should see the win folder mounted in the /mnt (or the mount point you gave). It means that the /mnt folder is used as a normal folder in your linux box and you can browse it as any folder.

Hope this help you.

Chacalinc,

That worked thanks, that was my last stumbling block I have been struggling to overcome to be able to use Linux full time at work.
What I do not understand and maybe you could point me to an article or exlain is why the browse function within Samba which connects me to the shares on the Windows network does not "auto create " that functionality.
But again thanks for your time and assistance, it was much appreciated!
