Problems configuring wrt54gs

Hi,

Currently we have a wrt54g in our VP lounge for our passengers. its flaky so i'm replacing it. we use static ip. Basically i am copying the exact configuration from WAN IP to LAN IP to the DHCP setup we have. our new router is wrt54gs speedbooster. I am able to configure the router's static ip, however when i try to configure the lan ip, it keeps telling me that the WAN ip is the same as lan ip please check them.
It tells me this even if the wan/lan are two different numbers.

How can i fix this..i want to use one of the block of static ip's as the routers lan address. if not its no big deal i can use the 192.168.1.x scheme. i was able to do this on the router that is currently there.

The WAN and LAN IPs cannot be in the same subnet. Otherwise you would not need a router at all.

. If you are going to use all static IPs, then disable the DHCP server service on the router. This also will prove a barrier for anyone wanting to poach on your service.

. I suspect an issue with the 192.168.1.x subnet. It is likely that you are double NAT'ing, and that your modem is using this private IANA subnet with its own router function. Workaround: use a completely different IANA subnet on the LAN side. Assign the route a LAN IP of 10.0.0.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, (Yes, I am using a Class C subnet)

. You client IPs will look like this:
IP: 10.0.0.2 - through - 10.0.0.253
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.0.0.1
