To Whom It May Concern:

I have an Effient Networks 2614 4-Port DSL/Cable Router and I am having trouble accessing their web-based configuration site (192.168.254.254). One time it opened but the default user name (admin) and password (admin) did not work. Other than that ONE time, the site address does not open.

I am trying to configure it so that I can split my existing connection. I configured it once before when I first bought it, a year ago, but now it won't let me. I recently moved and have already set up my DSL through BellSouth (same service as before). Everything works fine, I just need to get to that config site. Is there anyway around this? I know that BellSouth uses PPP and also EnterNet software which "dials up" the DSL service. I would also like to get rid of this step, which I think is solved once I configure my router (correct me if I am wrong). So, I guess my main problem for right now is why the config site is not loading properly.

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Your IP addressing is unusual, to say the least. See if your manual shows how to reset the router to factory defaults. However,

Three things to look at as a source of the problem:

1. Connect directly to the router from your PC, no other client connections. Set your PC's TCP/IP properties to a static IP address of 192.168.254.10, subnet 255.255.255.0.

2. Under IE, check that Tools, Internet Properties, Intranet Zone, Custom Settings, that (scroll to the bottom) password prompting for username and prompting is enabled.

3. Disable any and all firewalls on your client machine.

Now try again.

ok, got the ip address to load finally and yes, mattwray, i was able to ping the ip. HOWEVER, got another problem, cannot login in. the default password to the SIEMENS config site is "admin" as stated in the user guide but it doesn't work. i tried reseting the router and modem but still nothing. if anyone has gotten around this please post a reply. thanks!

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, click on the Intranet Icon, Custom Settings, scroll to the bottom, enable usernme and passwword prompting.

Best.

bcastner,

i tried enabling username and password for prompting but still no luck. i sent an e-mail over to the efficient networks support people regarding my problem so i'm waiting on a response. but if anyone else has any suggestions, i'm open to them. thanks! and thanks to those who have already replied.

So what did they have you do to fix it? What was wrong with it? All can be helpful if others run into the same problem....

Thanks,

they help me reset the password to default 'admin' (could have been a possibility that the password might have been changed by me)

efficient networks tech solution:
- basic check of settings, ensure that...
- obtain an IP address automatically is selected
- obtain DNS server address automatically is selected
- LAN Settings: automatically detect settings is NOT selected
- hold reset button on front of router with pen for 10 secs
- release and try to login using pw:admin once leds start to flicker
- if login error, hold reset button again for 10 secs
- and while still holding reset button, unplug router
- keep unplugged for 30 secs
- plug router and release reset button
- try to login again using pw:admin once leds start to flicker
- if login error, restart pc and try to login again

after restart, my password was reset. hopefully this will be the same for others who might have this problem. if it still occurs, i suggest trying to reset process again and/or calling tech support for further instruction.

hope this helps! thanks to all those who helped me...
