Problems backing up a combined DC and exchange server

At a couple of small branch offices around the country we have only one server that acts as a DC and an exchange server. When I go to do backups with these I find that the exchange back-ups fail saying the a/c I'm using has insufficient priviledges to open the exchange databases. Each office has its own a/c set up for the exchange agent all set up the exact same way.

For offices where the DC and exchange servers are seperate there is no problem with the backups. But where the exchange and dc are the same server I get this error.

Has anyone have a similar setup on any servers and how are they tackling the issue? The servers are Win2K with exchange 2000 and Arcserve 2000 (build 7 with sp3 installed).

Any ideas or inspiration would be much appreciated.

zbackup,

We ran the same config on NT4 with Exchange 5.5 and I can safely say it's no bug.

Make sure the account has all the right permissions etc. and check the logon details for the exchange backup service.

The special permissions needed on NT4 may not apply to a 2000 installation but it is what caused our problem. I think the fact that the server is a DC means that the permissions to the local system are different to that of a domain account.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, and sorry not to have got back sooner. Turned out it was a problem with our replication on the exchange end of things. All seems relativly ok now.
