Problem with Web Interface

Hi there,

Wonder if anyone can give me any pointers?

I'm currently setting up two Farms for a customer, both of which are configured in the same way. Anyway, the first Farm was fine, I set up the PS3 Farm on the Windows 2003 machines without problem, installed Web Interface onto the SQL datastore machine (don't ask!) and, after changing the permissions on the files accessed via the web to allow access, it runs perfectly.

My problem is the second environment. The machines are all running in the same manner, and the only difference is that the SQL datastore is clustered, so I'm installing Web interface onto a cluster.

I can access the WIAdmin page, and make configuration changes without problems, and get the web interface login page fine, but when I try and log in I always get the following message:

ERROR: The Citrix MetaFrame servers cannot process your request at this time. An error occurred while attempting to connect to the MetaFrame servers. Please make sure that the Citrix XML Service is running on the MetaFrame servers and listening on a valid port. If the Citrix XML Service is configured to share ports with the Internet Information Service (IIS), please make sure that the IIS is running.

There is no SSL in place, its just plain Web Interface (and thats only because we need PNAgent running, the interface itself will just be disabled, i'm simply using it for testing as PNAgent doesn't work either.

The machine takes some time to come back with the error message, and its always the same error, even if I enter a random username and password, which makes me suspect the Web Interfact just isn't making contact with the Citrix Servers, yet they are up and running fine, apps work via PN, its just the web side that is failing.

I documented my install of the first environment, which worked fine, and have followed exactly the same procedure this time around, but yet it doesn't work.

Has anyone got any ideas of what I've done differently?!

Many thanks,

edlcsre

What port is the XML service running on ?

Hi Scott,

its port 80, which is the same as the port being used on the Citrix servers

had the same problem a few days ago. it seems that the admin page was not saving the list of citrix servers that are in the farm

KCDave03 What was your solution ?

when we had originally entered the config thru the web interface, it did not update the cnf file as it supposed to. when we relaunched the WI, the server list was gone. therefore, the WI did not have a server list on which to act upon. that's what this error reflects. we just had to reenter the info and verify that it was indeed saved. all is well now

Hi KCDave03,

At the risk of stating the obvious, on the WI admin page, you were clicking save on the page where you enter the servers, and then Apply on the next screen? if you don't click Apply, the changes are not made.

I think the problem I was experiencing appeared to be related to the fact that the server onto which I installed WI was a cluster for the second environment; I installed WI on a single node server, and it is now working perfectly. It would appear that the WI and Citrix servers were simply not communicating, port 80 showed no traffic running at all, so i guess it was something to do with WI being installed on a single node within a cluster. Will read up more about it for future reference, but am working now.

thanks for the help
