Hi All,

Is there a way to have a number field in the report which will be increased by 1 evertime the report is saved. The problem we are facing is once the report is put to run on the server(infoview) and there is some problem with the report and we have to enhance it, we are unable to know which version is running on the server. If not having a number field in the report is there any other solution to control the version of crystal reports.

Thanks,
M

There is a 'Modification Date' under Special Fields, but even the smallest change will update it. What we've done is have a central library of current sources, separate from anything Crystal can do.

It helps to give your Crystal version - 8, 8.5, 9, 10, 11 or whatever. Methods sometimes change between versions, and higher versions have extra options. In this case, it probably makes no difference.

Hi Madawc,

I did not understand the below sentence, can you please explain it more.

"What we've done is have a central library of current sources, separate from anything Crystal can do."

Thanks,
M

It is an unrelated piece of software. Before that we used folders containing master copies of the reports.

I always add a suffix to my report name to indicate the version. I use letters, A, B, etc., to indicate substantive changes to a report, and I also add a number that I increment when I update only the parameter picklists. So, a report title might look like:

Report_Title_H2

I also add a report description in the report header which shows the version number (in case someone else changes the report title), and also shows Created CR Version, Date of Issuance, Date Modified and Description of Modification, Parameters, Parameter PickList Update date, Report Uses, Key Features, Estimated Speed, Exporting Instructions, Contact Info. I've found this to be very helpful in tracking the status of reports.

Thanks for your responses. It is not just one person who will look and modify the reports in my place. That is the reason I was asking for something where it gets updated automatically when ever the reort is saved, because incase if anyone forgets to update the version number it becomes a problem. I am expecting the modified date should work for me but it would be great if there is a way that there is a number automatically updated when ever it is brought out from server and put it back into the server.

Thanks,
M
