Hello, my brothers PIII 750Mhz, 128MB pc was messed up so I ran the recovery on it. After that the HP 640c printer would not work. I disconected the printer and removed the driver. I then reinstalled the driver, rebooted, attached the usb printer and nothing happened.
The printer is now connected with a parrallel cable and works fine.
The USB ports are both working as I tested with a USB webcam. I only have the one USB cable so I dont know if that is faulty but it did work fine before I ran the recovery. This has me stumped, can anyone help?

sounds like it could be the cable....try it in both ports, as you know they are both working...

Also, just check in the device manager that there are no Unknown Devices in there and that the printer isint in there somewhere...if the cable is ok windows wont install the printer if it is already in the device manager..and remove any previous installiations of the printer in the system printers folder at start->settings->printers

good luck!

No probs in device manager. Had removed any trace of the printer and dddriver before I started again. Still no joy.

Go into regedit. Click under hkey current machine then ENUM then USB. Delete any VID XXXX whatever is in there then restart without anything on your usb ports. Then plug in your printer. This works for almost anything USB that you have had connected before and is now not detecting.
