Hi,

I have cloned a system on different hardware F50 --> H70 with AIX 5.1. The new system is running well.

Now we want upgrade the system from AIX 5.1 to AIX 5.3. I have installed the lastet Microcode for the System. But everytime i start the upgrade installation the following messages will show on the screen.

The BOS pre-installation procedure detected an internal
processing error (3).
The migration cannot continue.
To reboot the system, press Enter:

When i install aix 5.3 out of the box on the same system, the installation will finished without any errors.

Any idee??

is rootvg mirrored? I heard you have to break the mirror before upgrading to 5.3

Hello,

yes we have broken the rootvg mirror before we start the upgrade.

Looks like you do not have enough free partitions or have set other limiting factors for LVs (INTER_POLICY, UPPER_BOUND?) to adjust filesystems sizes. The BOS install program tries to run adjfs to do whatever it has deemed necessary and this fails for some reason.

I found the error message you are getting literally in the script /usr/lpp/bos/bos.rte.pre_i script which is contained in the fileset bos.rte.bosinst

The message is issued (and migration stops) if an unknown/unexpected returncode is generated by the command adjfs.

When you overwrite install, a new rootvg is created and you do not run into the same problem.
