We have an exchange server being difficult on a VPN with trusted domains. Here's the configuration:

We have domain ABC which has on it an Exchage Server and a couple of hundred users. Last week we connected domain DEF to ABC via VPN. We then established trust relationships in both directions. Everything sees everything else on both domains just fine. For one week the users on domain DEF could send and receive email via the exchange on ABC just fine. As of today the users on DEF can no longer send email. It just sits in their out box. If you go into the exchange service in Outlook, the server and user both validate fine. Nothing has been changed. Ther real kicker is that the 3 admin level accounts still send and receive mail through ABC's exchange server just fine. Please help, I currently have 50 users with no email. Once we made the switch last week, we stopped using our ISP.

Thanks, Jim...

Have you checked your application event logs for any clues?

I would enable logging on Exchange and look for authorization failures. Here's where you might start auditing:

IMAP4 Settings: Set Authentications to Medium

Private Information Store: MTA Connections, Logons, Access Control

ShackDaddy

Problem solved :) When the administrator accounts where setup on the exchange server, they were told to authenticate using domain DEF. The other accounts were set up later and told to authenticate using the domain the exchange server is on, ABC. Changeing the authentication in the exchange server user profiles to domain DEF now allows them to authenticate correctly. Why they worked for a week will probably remain a Microsoft mystery.

Thanks for all of your help,
Jim...
