I have an occasional recurring problem with TDL sets flashing and going out of service on a Magix. I replaced a board once and it made no difference. Once I fixed it by reseating the amphenol (sp?) cable. Sometimes the customer fixes it by turning the system on and off a couple of times. The customer has 2 TDL boards, and I fixed the problem for about 6 months by swapping them. Now it is back. Has anyone had this happen? There are no errors in the error log, and no one is near the equipment when this happens. I am wondering what to replace next??? Thanks!

In addition to looking for error codes in the error log, you can run tests on the modules or individual ports. Check the Legend or Magix Maintenance document for details. I have used these tests in the past to troubleshoot, and in both cases found faulty wiring or connections causing the problems or than a blown port.

Err...third vote, rather. And in my experience, distance doesn't make much of a difference. I've run 44xx sets almost a half mile over garden-variety wire. I'll reiterate: What you have is a dirty connector, bad splice or bad amphenol connection.

Those amphenols are a PITA, I know. But if you've got the right screws, the top goes down tight and a nylon cable tie seats the lower half. If the switch or connectors are in a moist environment, spray the ends with contact cleaner (may be known as "TV tuner cleaner" at Radio Shack or Mostenbocker's "Lift Off" at Home Depot). Both will de-oxidize the copper and leave behind a safe oily sheen. Pink erasers will do the job as well.

I removed and cleaned the ends and the problem has stopped... for now... but the real test will be to see if it comes back. Thanks for the brand names on the cleaners - we are going to pick some up.
