Problem with Task Usage and Filters

I am having an issue with the Task Usage view. Hopefully someone can give me some guidance.

Normal operation of Task Usage:
When I select the Task Usage view, the "All Tasks" filter is used. All the tasks that are resource loaded display the resources and hours against each task in the entire schedule. The resources are automatically displayed under each task when I choose the view.

The problem I am having is when I apply a filter to the task usage view. The resources are rolled up under each task. I have to click on the minus sign on each task to view the resources. This can be real painful if you are filtering out 50 or so tasks.

Does anyone know how to make this work automatically?

I have tried using the filter while in the Task Usage View, and have edited the view to directly call up the filter with the same results. I am using Project 2003 Standard.

Thanks

I have just tried that with P2003Pro and do not see what you are seeing.

One thing you can do, after applying the filter:

In the upper left corner there is a blank beige square just above the task ID numbers. When you put the cursor over the square it changes to a Plus symbol.

Click on that square to select all tasks (the display will change so you will know that you have selected all the tasks.

Now, click on the Show/Hide assignments button (it's on the Formatting toolbar and it's the fifth button in from the left -- outdent, indent, show subtasks, hide subtasks, Show/Hide assigments [it's a toggle so it will say Show assignments or Hide Assignments]). If you were showing assignments before then they will be hidden now. If you were hiding them before then all assignments will be shown.

Also, Project saves a variety of states. In the View | Task Usage display, make certain all resource assignments are being shown for all tasks before the saving the project next time.

Report back.

Thank You very much for your quick response PDQBach.

I tried your suggestions highlighting all the tasks and using the show/hide button. This works.

When I save, showing all the resources, they look OK as long as I save in the Task Usage view. If I change views, or filters, everything is rolled up and I have to use the show/hide button again.

I suspect there is a check box, or setting I am missing. There are at least two of us in our group with this issue, but at least we have a work around. If I find it, I will update this post.

Please send me a copy of the project file.

You can sanitize it by:
View | Gantt
Insert the UniqueID column
Copy the UniqueID column and paste it over the TaskName column.
View | Resource sheet
Insert the UniqueID column
Copy the UniqueID column and paste it over the Resourcename column

Send the file to PDQBach4100 at H0TMA1L.COM

I'm sorry, I am not permitted to send my schedules out of the building. I will see if I can put a dummy schedule together that exhibits the problem, with the assumption that I can get it approved.

Regards
George
