I am running Veritas 9.1 on a Windows 2000 server. My tape autoloader is a Quantum Valueloader SDLT 320. I have loaded eight tapes into the loader ( #8 being the cleaning tape), and when I go to label the tapes in the Devices tab in Veritas, number 1 keeps coming up as a cleaning tape. Number 8 is seen as a cleaning tape, so there's no problem of the wrong tape being seen there. I have even ejected (exported) and re-inserted (imported) new tapes into slot 1, but I still get the same problem. Is there something special I have to do to get rid of this problem?

thanks

Under the Devices tab in BE, right-click the problem slot and make sure there's not a check next to "Cleaning Slot".
I think you said you tried it, but try a known good tape in that slot, like a tape from slot 3 or 4.

It also may be the fact that your read head on the drive can read the header information on the tapes. If you start noticing thos on random tapes then I would update the SCSI can Veritas Tape Drivers. IF that doest change anything and your trying new tapes then you need to look at the hardware. If BE cant read the header information then it considers it cleaning media..because a cleaning tape has no header information as a data tape would

Steve56k;

The Quantum SDLT robotic library is set by factory default to always look for the cleaning tape in slot #1. To change this, do the following:

Press the Enter button on the front panel. Using the up/down arrows and the enter button, navigate through the display menus:

Select CONFIGURATION
Select CLEANING TAPE
Select LOCATION

Use the arrows to set the cleaning tape location to slot 8 and press Enter. Escape your way out of the menu. You're good to go!
