Hi,

I have created a new server, not my email and web server, where I am learning how to integrate a Linux file server into my NT network. I have read that RedHat's Samba RPM is buggy, so I went to samba.org and got the latest down load. I had no problem compiling it and installing it but I am unable to get swat's html interface to run. When I type I get the following error "Network error, pipe broken, connection reset by peer".

I am just at a loss. The workgroup does show in Network Neighborhood in NT and Windows 98, but I can not access the Linux server. By the way, I am running RedHat Linux 7.0.

Any one have an idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

I figured it out. This works for RedHat Linux 7.0 or greater. There is a problem with RedHat's RPM. Go to samba.org (I got the answer in the help pages at samba.org) and get the latest version of samba. Then when you install it,

1, Make sure that in /etc/xinetd.d/swat, the server path is: server = /usr/local/samba/bin/swat which is different from the RedHat rpm version.
2, Make sure that you have the following path created: /usr/share/samba/swat. Create the samba directory and then make a link to /usr/share/swat by (being in /usr/share/samba--when you do this), the command is: ln -s /usr/share/swat swat. Do a link, don't just move the files as this screws up swat.

This got swat working for me.
