I am using Solaris 8 on Intel platform and I just installed gnome 1.4 by using gzip and then making a pkgadd, and installed all the packages, but now when I try logging in and selecting gnome 1.4 it starts to go in but it booms me right out.

I also tried from the commend line to type gnome-session then I get a error message saying cant open display eli:0 (which eli is the name of the host :0)this computer is not on a network so I did not set a IP address (I left the default which is 127.0.0.1) I set the DISPLAY by typing setenv DISPLAY eli:0 but it dose not seem to work

Also in cde my display is not the best, my video card name is STB velocity 128, and by installing Solaris 8 I did not found my video card in the list of video cards so I select just the standard VGA, but this makes my display lock bad, where could I find a driver for my video card (and maybe this will also fix my gnome problem)

Please help

yes, I think your "gnome" problem is just the driver problem, the STB velocity 128 is not supported by Solaris 8,(only STB Velocity 3D and 64V, based on S3 chipset are supported), so the best way to resolve this is install Xfree86 4.1 for Solaris 8, it works fine with "STB velocity 128".

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Carlos Almeida,
