I am trying to restore a SharePoint portal with all sites from the old server with MSDE as a database to the new server with a SQL Server as a database.
Old server was previously inside the VMware image that is no longer available, but I have a backup made with the SharePoint Backup and Restore tool.
I successfuly installed new instance of the SharePoint Server 2003 on the new image, but each time I try to restore the portal using the same Backup/Restore tool I get the following message :
Portal creation failed Microsoft SharePoint.SPException: The database schema is too old to perform this operation in this SharePoint cluster. Please upgrade the database and try again...

All the databases are restored, but the portal creation failed. Tryed with/without the portal service pack, would appreciate any help.

Thnx, Sasa

hi Sasa,

If you could install sps on another comp, that does use MSDE. Then restore the backup to that comp. Then insert your Sql server CD (not web or developers edition). You should get the option to upgrade a existing database (2e option). When the database is upgraded run an new backup and restore that to your target server.

i hope this is any help to you.
