problem with selecting objects

I am working in illistrator cs3. When I select object with selection tool or with direct selection tool the anchor points on selected object and sqare around selection is not displayed. I can move, erase or change color to the selected object but I can not see which objects are already selected.

Not sure I fully understand the problem, but try this:
ctrl+H hides/shows outlines/nodes
shift+ctrl+B hides/shows bounding box w/'drag tabs'
try toggling these & good luck!
