Hello,

I downloaded the lates version of Samba (3.0.0.0) from Bull and installed it on AIX 5.1. When testing, I get the following:

root@host:/>smbclient
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program smbclient because of the following errors:
0509-150 Dependent module libreadline.a(libreadline.so) could not be loaded.
0509-022 Cannot load module libreadline.a(libreadline.so).
0509-026 System error: A file or directory in the path name does not exist.

Any ideas?

I'm running AIX 4.3.3.0 R11 and I'm getting the same error with Samba 3.0.0.0 binaries from Bull. Has anyone found the solution for this? If not would I be better off to downgrade to Samba 2?

Try installing the following:
readline-4.2a-1.aix4.3.ppc.rpm

It was a while ago since I looked at this problem, but I think I downloaded this fileset from Bull.

It looks like this is a library that is required by Samba.

Good Luck.

Sorry, I should have said that this package is Linux based, so, you mightwant to get the "bff" package. I believe it is found on Bull site as well.

Thanks for the help.

I haven't found the bff package as of yet (that'd be too easy). I did find the rpm package on the IBM website. It's part of their Toolbox for Linux Applications. They say it's for AIX 5L, but the numbers match up.

readline-4.2a-1.aix4.3.ppc.rpm.

So I guess all I have to do now is install rpm. And maybe look into upgrading to Aix 5L.

when i tried to install SAMBA 3 I had ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS
I suggest using SAMBA-2.0.6.0 because I KNOW IT WORKS! and if you can find the correct package it comes with SWAT making it even easier... IT WORKS!

Thanks for the info. I was able to find SAMBA-2.0.7.0 which seems to work right from the install. Of course I have to fine tune the smb.conf file, but I got alot farther with that version than 3.0 or even 2.2.8.1

I tried installing RPM but it required a library that required another library to install. I got tired of messing around with it. I didn't realize that 4.3.3 was already that obsolete. How time flies.

Hi guys! I upgraded to aix 5.2 and ended up with a load of smaba heartbreak...can you tell me where I can get SAMBA-2.0.7.0 install files? Please!

I didn't have an issue at all w/ Samba 3.0 and AIX 5.2 The only problem was I didn't have a freeware user created. Once I did that, all worked fine.
