Problem with rotation in GD Library

I have a 16px. square image, containing an arrow inside a circle, which I can rotate to any angle.
Rotating 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees is no problem but
if I rotate it part way between these values the image goes off centre.
Is there a way to keep the image central through all the increments?
