This was not always a problem, but now my 18-D system telephone (with 3 lines) gives a loud beep then a ring for incoming calls. In addition, when I go to answer the incoming call, let's say on line 1, my phone picks up line 2 and I must manually switch over to line 1 to answer the call. I don't know if one is the result of the other or if they're mutually exclusive, but what I want to happen is for incoming calls to simply ring (without a beep) and I also want to pick up my phone and answer the incoming call directly (on the correct line) without any middleman.
I have called the 800 numbers for customer service (no one answered) and I have been pouring over pdf files, google, and the avaya support website. No one seems to be having this problem...any help?

Press the Feature Button and then 00 on your keypad. Do the buttons with your lines show as solid green or are they flashing? If they are flashing, do the following from x10 or x11:

Feature 00
Left Intercom Button Twice
Right Intercom Button Once
Then enter your extension number
The buttons will show as flashing on that phone
Press each line button until it is solid green
Press Feature 00 to exit programming

Thanks so much for responding so quickly to my query!
However, A. the lines were all solid green, B. I got through to an operator at one of their 800 numbers who said he'd never heard of such a problem, C. the issue was eventually resolved when he helped me to back up the system before unplugging the main line for 10 seconds and starting over.
Haha it's been quite a day. Thanks again.

My Guess: Your extension was Forwarded to another extension.

That explains the beep, and that when you pick up the handset, it grabs an idle line instead of the ringing line.

Feature 11, your extension number, the extension number that you would like to send your calls to.

Feature 11, your extension number, your extension number again to cancel.

Try forwarding your extension, see if the same thing you experienced happens again, then un-forward your extension to get back to normal.
