Hello All,

Here is a problem that is a little strange. I am hoping someone with a better understanding of the GW address book has an idea where to go with this.

When we recieve a message from an external contact and then reply to them, it finds them in our address book but does not stuff their name correctly. It takes the first letter of their name and then puts their last name. Here is an example:

We use the naming convention I (for internet), country name, contact name. So we would have a contact similar to I Albania Joe Blow. In our address book we have I Albania as his first name and Joe Blow as his last name.

When we reply it finds him in our address book but lists him as I Joe Blow. This is a problem because people who are cc'd only see I Joe Blow and cannot tell what country this is pertaining to.

Even stranger, if after we hit reply, we highlight the name which is incorrect and then hover over it so it shows the details, it then puts the name back in the box correctly. It then shows I Albania Joe Blow as it should.

Any one have any ideas? Is it pulling the name from somewhere else until I hover over it and force it to go out and get the details?

Thanks,
Daniel Joaquin

What client are you using? I suggest updating to 6.5sp5 the latest version. Early GroupWise clients are very problematic, and full of bugs.

We are currently running SP4 on both the server and clients. So it is not really an "early" version. I will give it a try though and let you know what happened.

In the meen time any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

What I really ment by early clients was that some early version of the clients really screwed up the address books for people. As we installed newer version of the client over the top of those people who were effected by the crappy early version, the problem carried over throughout all the clients.

So it may take uninstalling the client and cleaning out the file systems, then reinstall the later client with a fresh install into a new folder. Then recache the clients if they are in caching mode.

OK. I finally found time to do the full uninstall, cleanup and then reinstall. It did not help the problem though. Oh yeah, I also tried the latest sp5 client and it did not help either.

Any other ideas? I know it must force some kind of lookup when I hover over the name to get the quick info because that is when I changes the address to the correct one in our address book. But where is the other address which is missing the first portion of the last name coming from?!

Thanks,
Daniel
