hi everybody, i have a little problem, i have a mail server, with squirrel webmail, and i have assigned 40Mb quotas for my dir users, so they have to erase their mails and maintain their directory under 40Mb, but my problem is when the user's dir reaches 40Mb, they can´t erase their mails or even send mails... so i have to erase the quota, and the problem is solved, but i don't want that, i need the quotas, so is there any ideas for solved my problem, or there is any configuration in squirrel that allow me to asigns quotas without having problems when the users reaches the 40Mb?, ahh, by the way, i use courrier-mail, so the mails are stored at the users dir, not at /var/spool/mail.
hope somebody can help me
thanks in advance

Why not tell them the limit is 40MB, set it to 50MB, and then write a job to send them an automatic email at certain thresholds, e.g. 35MB. That won't fix it, but at least it may mean you need to intervene and remove the quotas less frequently.

What backend are you using with your squirrelmail? I use dovecot. When you users hit their quota limit, dovecot can no longer update it's index files so you can't delete mail. The trick is to keep the index files separate from your mail directory. I used something like this in my dovecot config file:

default_mail_env=maildir:/home/%n/maildir:INDEX=/var/dovecot/indexes/%n

I have since removed my mail quota as everybody complains that they don't have enough mail storage space and management is willing to throw in more disks when the need arises.
