One of my programs (Turbo Tax) reported there were too many fonts on my system running Windows 98. Is that possible and if so how can I correct that problem?

Thanks

Noel Anderson

I've seen that problem before, but it was on Win95 when I seen it, despite that you are running Win98, was the Turbo Tax program written with Win95 in mind?
Karl
kb244@kb244.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
It's the latest and greatest version of Turbo Tax.......and one of my other programs which usually displays a particular font now displays a gereric 10 point font. Can I just start deleting fonts willy-nilly???

Thanks

Noe Anderson

that depends, some the windows system fonts are needed, the usual like FixedSys, Roman Times, Courior, Arial, so on, basically keep most of the ones you know windows came with. if you wanted to try that. Also whas there a specific error message about the fonts? other than "too many"
Karl
kb244@kb244.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
I've had this problem as well. It has nothing to do with Turbo Tax. Win98 can only handle about 250 installed fonts on my system (i don't know if that is system specific or Win98). It sounds like Turbo Tax needed to install some fonts and that put you over your limit. Karl is right just start deleting fonts, but be carefull not to delete the ones Windows needs or any that your applications need.

Wouldn't it be possible to move the fonts to a back up directory outside the font folder and see if the system functioned properly. If the removed fonts have no effect then it would be safe to delete them. That way you are less likely to get into a jam.

Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

technically win98 does something different which I find really annoying, sometimes, just moving the font out, doesnt remove it from it's font listing, instead, it still uses the font, it just changes it's location.
Karl
kb244@kb244.com
<a href=
Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)
