Problem with playing sounds

I have a bunch of old programs that used to play sounds by using the SHELL command and calling a command line wav player (Wav.exe by Webgeeks). Sadly, this wav player doesn't work with my current computer, for some reason it makes the screen all glitchy when I use it from Qbasic.

So basically I'm looking for another command line wav player that is able to :

*play sounds from the shell command in Qbasic without trouble
*play sounds without displaying anything (Wav.exe had this feature but as I just explained, it it now causes glitches so I need another one)

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me, I want to save my old programs.

I just tried, dosbox would be a satisfactory alternative, though when the program calls a sound nothing happens and the command box states "SHELL : Redirect output to NUL"

Any idea what this means?
