I have just recently installed a Citrix XPs Server on W2K for our company (within the last week). We are publishing a desktop to users across a T1 line.

One of the things that they have access to from their ICA desktop is an Outlook 97 Client linked to their Mail Account on our Exchange 5.5 Server.

Strange problem popped up this morning... One user, after opening his ICA session runs Outlook. Outlook opens with no problems and he can get to his mailbox. He has 6 new messages in his box. 4 of them open with no problems. 2 of the messages won't open. When you click on the message a "Microsoft Outlook Error" window opens with the message "Can't Open this Item. The Objects could not be found"

If this same user, accesses his Exchange mailbox through OWA over an INternet connection, the message opens just fine.

Locally, on my machine, I created a profile for the user and connected an Outlook Client to the Exchange server locally (not through ICA) and I can open the email fine.

Through the published desktop the problem persists...

Any ideas????

Just as an addition to the above problem...

The email in question was also sent to another user who connects via Citrix. Same thing for that User... They can open it in OWA or from an Outlook Client attaching to Exchange locally, but through Citrix, they can't open the email. Really weird. Seems to be related just to that one message.

I understand from a customer of mine that there are several 'issues' with Citrix and Outlook. His was blue screening. I know he fixed it with service packs, but don't know what and where. Peter Meachem

Is the message content for these emails different in some way.

It sounds like components are needed to view the offending messages and these are not installed on the metaframe outlook 97 you are using.

Have you run the application compatibilty scripts for office 97 and outlook 97?

what about the Citrix knowledge base?

My system was having a similar problem (with Outlook 97 and Metaframe 1.8 on Win 2k). MSKB has a article but I can't remember the number... I believe I searched the KB using the exact verbiage from the error. You have to install Switchforms.exe (from MS) and then run Regforms.exe (also MS).

By the way EACH user has to run this utility - at least if there is an easier way I don't know what it is!

Thanks, mrashburn. I'll give it a try.
A little additional information after reviewing the problem... This happens (so far) only when the sender of the email message is using AOL and they forward a message onto one of our Exchange users... I guess if the message length is longer than a predetermined (by AOL) size, AOL encapsalates the forwarded email as a .MSG attachment and just puts the additional text the sender adds as the body of the message. Because full Outlook Clients can handle this, but they can't through Citrix, my first feeling was to check the compatibility scripts as Djarid mentioned... I was fairly certain these were run but I wanted to check to be sure...

I'll search the knowledgebase and see if I can turn up the document you mention...
