Hi there,

First of all, this site looks great ! Good job to whoever maintains this place!

I'm the webmaster of the Fred Couples homepage ( and I have a problem with a new Java menu I'm trying to implement on my site.

I must say that I'm miles away from being able to understand what you guys are talking about. When it comes to Java programming, I'm more a user than a programmer. You probably know that you can download some softwares that will do the programming for you; well that's what I do. I select the colors and I edit the code !

Now here's a link to my menu as it is now

Everything is o.k except for one thing; I'm not able to put a picture in between the top menu bar and the "status" bar at the bottom of the applet. I'm only able to put a solid color (as you can see on the menu), which is completely useless. I would like to know if it's possible to do such a thing.

If you guys need the code, I can send you the files that are part of my applet. Just tell me how I can do it and I'll make sure you recieve the files.

Thanks in advance to anyone who will help,

David

The applet area cannot show the bakground image of the html body.

I would use a DHTML menu instead - its more light weight than an applet, you will be able to see the background of the page, and also your site won't be blocked by companies that won't allow people to load applets.

Can I obtain the same effect with DHTML ?

Can my menu look exactly the same with DHTML ?

So now here'S the $32,000 question:

How do I do that?

I'm pretty sure you won't re-write my menu, which is pretty logical, so what are my solutions at the moment?

Search google for "DHTML menu", look at the ones you like the look of, download an example, hack it.
