problem with monitor

I would like some help..my monitor tends to black out for a second(s) sometimes, then works fine. It has been doing this for over a month now and I'm not sure as to what may be the cause. I have reinstalled drivers, checked power cords. Is the monitor just dying? I bought it in 2000.
Any help is appreciated.

I had the exact same problem with my monitor, it would black out for a while and i could either wait for it to come back on or hit it then it came back on, i sent it in for repairs and i was informed that it was dry connections and quite a easy problem to solve, just do it befor the monitor seizes completely, otherwise you will be waisting a good monitor,
