Hi folks,
I’ve a problem with rootvg on AIX 4.3(hdisk0 = 2Gb and hdisk1 = 4.3 Gb). The rootvg is mirrored. Now, hdisk0 has not enough PP’s and I’m not able to enlarge “/”.
My proposal was:
1. unmirror the rootvg
2. remove hdisk0 from rootvg
3. add new disk (4.3 Gb) to rootvg
4. mirror rootvg
5. syncvg rootvg

Is this correct??? Or is there any problem with the blv. Collleagues told me to pay attention.

Greetings

Hi,

You should at least "bosboot -a; bootlist -m normal hdisk1" between 1 and 2 (in case your system ever crash during swap ...) and after 5.

Don't forget to modify the quorum of rootvg (chvg -Q1 rootvg) + rebooting (need a varyoff rootvg to take effect) after rebuilding the mirror.

Another way to proceed is to add the 3rd disk and then remove hdisk0 (supposing hd5 is used for boot):

cfgmgr
extendvg rootvg hdiskX
migratepv -l hd5 hdisk0 hdiskX (use lspv -l to check boot logicial volume)
bosboot -ad /dev/hdiskX
chpv -c /dev/hdisk0
bootlist -m normal hdisk1 hdiskX
sysdumpdev -p /dev/sysdumpnull (if hdisk0 used for dump)
migratepv hdisk0 hdiskX
sysdumpdev -p /dev/hdX (if previously deactivated)
reducevg rootvg hdisk0
rmdev -l hdisk0 -d

Good luck
