I have a merlin mail on a legend system that we inherited when our customer moved into a office. I setup a hunt group 770 and put extensions 34,35,36,37 into the group. When I call the group or the extension # the VM picks up and says transfering call and sends me to who knows where. It doesn't give me time to enter the system admin extension # 9997. I'm at a loss, any ideas?

I also tried to connect to the com port using HyperTerminal. I get to the password screen and enter the default password 1234. The password is incorrect. Is there a way to default the system without having the system admin password?

You need to finish setting up the VM Calling Group 770. You need to set the Hunt Type for the group to "Linear" and set the Group Type to "Integrated VMI". Then try intercomming the group number - and you should get the greeting "Welcome to Merlin Mail - please enter the extention number and pound sign".

Thanks Tom that worked. Now when I try to use the default password 1234 on mailbox 9997 it doesn't work. Is there a way to reset the system mailbox 9997 to 1234?

Well - to do that - you need to first login to the admin mailbox. Do you know what release the Merlin Mail is? The typical default password is "123456" - so try that first - instead of just 1234.

It is a release 3. I tried the 123456 and still didn't work.

Well - there is one more thing you can try - if the hardrive was never replaced. On the bottom back edge of the unit - there should be a 6-digit serial#. Write it down - and log into 9997 - and use the 6-digit serial# as the password. If the system responds with "goodbye" - you are in luck. Go back to the Merlin Mail - turn it off - wait about 10 seconds - and turn it back on. The 9997 password will be reset to just the pound sign.
