Hello all,

i've read all the threads (i could find) about the problems with reporting with memofields but i can't get things to work... will one of you please help me out?
I work with Crystal Reports 8.0.1.0 and i used update DBEXDRVRWIN_EN_200401.exe (hotfix).
Datasourcetype: SQL
ODBC cuppling

Problem Memofield:
The databasefield (type: memo) is filled with records but when i use the field in a query, it won't give results and so it seems empty.

Problem SQL ExpressionField:
It's still greyed out. Also after installing the above mentioned hotfix.

Anyone?

Many thanks!

First, you can use Memo fields > 254 in Crystal 8.

Try posting technical information, or perhaps:

Datasourcetype: SQL
ODBC cuppling

Means that you have a MS SQL Server database, and you're using ODBC connectivity.

Note that SQL is a language, and that Sybase, Oracle, etc are all SQL databases.

You also state "Problem SQL ExpressionField:
It's still greyed out. Also after installing the above mentioned hotfix."

Which implies that we should all go look up what this hotfix is supposed to do, and deduce from that what it's not doing. Which is a quick way to make people lose interest because you're too lazy to state what you want or why you did things.

A memo field won't show up in a SQL Expression formula, but you can use it in a SQL Expression, and you can display it in it's entirety in the report.

Rather than stating what you've read and tried, try stating what you want to do, and show example data and data types.

If you want to use a Memo field in a Crystal formula, first use a CAST to convert it to a varchar(254), or to use it in some formula in a SQL Expression to be processed by the database just type it in manually.
