Hi,

I have this formula: =LEFT(A1,2)
I was able to use on one machine; however, when I tried this same formula on a different machine, instead of returning 2 fields on A1, it returns me =LEFT(A1,2). Do you have any idea why. I think it has to do something with the settings. Thanks so much!

Hi,

Format/Cells -- Number Tab -- select GENERAL for the column(s) containing ANY formula.

If you have inserted a column into imported data, then you will need to force the column to number format. You can do this with the good ol' "Times One Fix".

In a column to the right of your imported data, type 1 into a cell. Copy that cell. Now select the cells that contain formulae. Edit > Paste Special > Multiply & Values. Now retype the formulae.

Or use, Data | Text to Columns.

If all formulas are showing that way, hit Ctrl + ` to toggle formula view.
