Problem with just one e-mail address

I successfully send out quite a number of e-mails, but just one keeps being rejected by addressee's ISP. Colleagues using other ISPs have no problem with this address.

His MAILER_DAEMON rejects it with the message "no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)". On checking with his ISP they claim it has invalid characters \'+\' inserted within the e-mail address I'm using.

Nothing shows up here. I've tried using the address from my address book, manually typing it in, and even using the "reply to" option. None of these make any difference.

If I send a message to this address and to another one which is ok, there is no visible corruption in the e-mail header receive at the other address.

How can I determine where this corruption is creeping in? Is there some way I can monitor data as it is uploaded to my ISP's SMTP server?

ROGER.

Ask them to send you the header as they receive it, it may reveal something.

If 'something' 'somewhere' gives 'some' error, expect random guesses or no replies at all. Please specify details.

Sorry about delay in replying...

I am only getting minimal responses from his ISP. They are not very forthcoming with information...

Mail client is Eudora - machines are usually using v3.06, but have tried v5.1 - makes no difference. Outlook not available at this time.

I am not understanding why I can contact their technical support which uses an identical address format, and yet this one user address gets rejected?

This ISP appears to be running AmaViS - I'm wondering if this is causing the problem. I note that in my header returned by their MAILER_DAEMON there is corrupted X-Sender data. This isn't corrupted when it reaches any other of my addressees...

Any thoughts please?

ROGER.

If it is the same person with the problem have you tried deleting that person from your contacts list and recreating it? I have had similar problems in the past and that has solved it.

Yes, same person with the problem... The address book has maybe 200+ entries in it, and all work prefectly except just this one. Tried making a new entry (with different nickname) in address book - makes no odds - still rejected by his ISP. Also tried manually typing in address in new message, and also tried the "reply to" option. All fail! And yet when sending to his ISP's tech support (identical address format) there are no problems.

I have several e-mail addresses available to me. If I send a "broadcast" message to all of them and include his address in the list, I see no corruption in ANY of the addresses when I check all my various mails, but his is of course rejected yet again by his ISP.

Total mystery...

I guess you are going to insist with that ISp then, or at least, have that person do it, it is not really your problem to solve, and the ISP will handle the owners request faster than yours.

I get the impression that the ISP isn't that bothered. The other guy can send to me ok, but I can't send to him, and for the moment there isn't any important traffic I need to pass. Perhaps when he desparately needs an answer to something he'll push his ISP...
