I hope someone out there can help me.

I have a customer with 1-BCM400 and two BCM 50e's using voip trunks. With VPN.

Digital set calls from BCM 400 to any BCM 50e and vise versa no problem. IP phones only installed on BCM 400 LAN2 can call IP phones and digital phones within BCM 400.

IP phones can call digital sets on the BCM 50e's (Set rings) but no voice communications. I just get dead air.

LAN1 is my connection to the outside world using the BCM 400 as a router.

IP phones are set to codec auto and Gateway is my LAN1 IP address.

Any idea what to do??

your phones do not know how to find the 50s and vice versa.

you need to fix the remote networks on the vpn as well as ensure that the ip phones are pointed at the local vpn endpoint as the gateway.

finally, read the NTP entitled Data Networking for VoIP to truly understand how the technology works.

Your IP phone need to be on the LAN1.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Not necessarily true ace. the BCM CAN route traffic between LAN ports. It's just not idealized as a router and requires programming appropriately.

Hi MagnaRGP,

I know I need to fix the remote networks on the VPN and do some things on the BCM 400. I was hoping to get a little more information!!!!!!!

I tried pinging from the remotes and got the following results.

I can ping LAN1 (my connection to the outside world)
I can ping LAN2 (my Published IP address)
I cannot ping the IP phones

You will need to create static routes in the 400 that route all traffic reaching LAN2 destined for LAN1 through the interfaces and the reverse.

Your VPN tunnel (400 side) will will need to allow as local networks both the LAN1 and LAN2 subnets

Your VPN tunnel (remote side) will need both LAN1 and LAN2 subnets (400 side) as remote networks as well as the subnet the other remote site.

Even then, using the 400 as a router is not the best solution and you may not be able to input those parameters properly. If not, you will need to move your IP phones into the LAN1 subnet and publish that IP.

There is a BCM data networking guide available. That should help you implement what I've listed.

Hi MagnaRGP,

I'll try that and let you know how it goes.

Thanks

I didn't have to do any of the last posting. The only thing which had to be done was to have the subnet for the local and remote on each VPN have access to the full range E.G 192.168.1.0 and 255.255.255.0
