Hi everyone,
I am trying to import tilde delimited file into an Excel 2002. As long as there is a limitation of records number, file was cut at the row 65536.
Now I am trying to start with 65536 in order to create additional sheet in Excel starting with the next record.
In the Text ImportWizard_step1, I tried to enter number 65537 into a combo box with caption“Start import at row”.
However:
When I try to enter system tells me:”Integer is not valid!”
When I try to scroll manually it doesn’t show me numbers bigger than 32000 and smth
What I am doing wrong? How can I do it?

Thank you in advance.

There may be a better way, but when I have a file that is too large, I do one of two things:

1. Use notepad or wordpad. I cut half of the text and paste to one worksheet and then cut the remaining and paste to another worksheet.

2. If the files are too large for notepad and wordpad, I use the unix utility split and cut the file into pieces. (I ftp the files to and from out unix server.)

Hope this helps,
Deb

In what application is the data currently?

You might be able to query it in Excel from its current location.

See Data > Import External Data.

While you can store that much data in PDSC it won't do you much good. since it is split across multiple sheets and would most likely make for a slow workbook.

PS - Excel 2007 has upped the number of rows from 65,536 (2^16) to 1,048,576 (2^20).

Hi,

It is highly unlikely that you will do anything with 65,000+ rows DIRECTLY.

Try importing into Access and then use MS Query in Excel to access the subsets of data that might be more meaningful.

You can also use the PivotTable wizard to access the Access table and report some aggregations.
