I am working with an AIX 4.2.1.0 Operating System, I am using Facetwin terminal emulation to emulate an IBM 3151 terminal, connecting thru a Raptor 6.5 firewall utilizing custom ports with a NAT rule setup.
My problem is this,,, I am encountering an Idle Disconnect after 30 minutes (1800 seconds), and I cannot locate the source of the idle timeout.
I am being told that none of our utilities have the capability to create such a timeout, neither Raptor 6.5, Facetwin Emulation client, AIX Operating system.
I have totally exhausted my outsourced support and still have no solution.
Has anybody experienced this problem and do you have a solution????
Thank you,

AIX does have the ability to automatically time out and log out users.

Check your .profile. A timeout may be specified there. For example, export TMOUT=1800

Check /etc/profile. It might also be specified there. If it's specified here, you will need to either comment it out (thus affecting all users) or unset it in the .profiles of the users you don't want to be affected by the timeout.

Actually, I did already check the .profile(s), and one bit of information that I forgot to mention, is that I also have users connecting to the same sessions through our frame relay's from other branches using our non-public inside ip address, and they do not experience these problems, it is only sessions that are coming in through the internet using our public ip address to access our firewall. ??? I am guessing that the final answer will be somewhere in the cisco router or my raptor firewall, but I don't have any confirmation on where or how this could happen???????

Have you posted this on the Cisco or Raptor forum? Or do a keyword search on those forums. They are in the Security section of Tek-Tips.

I'm with you. I bet it's in the firewall -- you would want the firewall to make sure idle connections are kicked out after a certain amount of time.
