I have an HP officeJet 7110 all in one (Print Fax and Scanner)
It is set up via network Server 2003.
It is set up on the server and it prints ok from all the workstations.
However I am having the following problems:
- How can I set it up so it will be used as a fax from all the workstations.
- How can I set it up as a scanner from all the workstation.
Please advice,
Thank you.

Hi,
I also have the 7110. I am using an ME machine as a server to one other ME machine and 3 XP pro machines. I too wanted to use the scan and fax features across the network and have looked into it. According to HP, there are only two ways this can be done, one of which is limited in scope.

1) Buy the DirectJet print serrver from HP. It plugs into the port on the back and has an rj45 (ethernet) jack. The DirectJet costs $200.00 and is available only on HP's site.

2) Buy the parallel port adapter ($24.00;part#C6502A). This allows what is called "simple sharing" between two machines. This is the option I'm using. I am sharing the printer accross the network via windows sharing and using the adapter to "simple share" between two machines, as these two are the only machines that require full function. And I saved $175.00. These are the only two options HP says are available.

One other option would be to use a USB switch betweeen however many machines you wish, as long as they weren't to far apart.

I was able to used method 2 described (Sharing Printer) since it is cheaper that getting DirectJet $202.
Your descriptive methods are acurate and once more thanks for replying.

Hi Dreman,
I noticed after I posted that you've had the 7110 since at least mid-October. Mine makes great copies with default settings, but scanning into the PC requires tweaking, and even then the quality is less than that of my 6 yr. old &100.00 Acer scanner. The scans just aren't very sharp. How is the scanning quality on your machine? Are there any other issues you have with the HP 7110?

Thanks,
erehton

erehton:
The printer was set up for one of my client.
I haven't heard any complaints from them yet.
Thank you.
