Before anything, heres an overview of the battlefield.
1) 1 AMD Athlon 1G computer with 640Mb of RAM and running Win2000 Pro. It has a one 3Com NIC and two Intel NICs.Computer name is "ControlServer" on the network. Two other computers connects to it via crossed cables. Internet is shared with a program called ProxyPlus.
2) 1 Celeron 433Mhz computer with 384Mb RAM and a fresh install of Win2000 Pro. It has an on-board NIC called Davicom. Computer name is "ControlClient1" on the network.
3) 1 P3 1G Notebook with 256MB RAM and running Linux Redhat 8. It useses a Xircom PCMCIA to connect to the network. Computer name is "ControlClient2" on the network.
Network Workgroup is CONTROL.
The mentioned setup has been running smooth for close to two years until recently when I reformed and reinstalled win2k on "controlserver". Everything was well for about a week after the reinstall. After which, the connection between controlserver and controlclient1 started flapping (on one second, disconnected the next and reoccurs indefinately).
Since everything looked fine on the "controlserver" computer I suspected that the problem must be with controlclient. Since it was running WinME, it was badly in need of an upgrade anyways. So I formatted and installed Win2000 on it (thus the fresh install). I was hoping that it'll settle the problem but I was wrong.
It now turns out that i could connect from controlclient for only 30secs before I am disconnected (I did a recurring ping (with the -t option)). Trying to connect again will result in flapping phenomenon. Thinking it might be a hardware fault, I bought two new NICs to replace the ones connecting these two computers. Still, the problem presists.
I have tried almost everything I can think of (swapping NICs, changing cables, scrutinise settings) but still no go.
please heellpp... Information is free....dont hog it!
