Please help me as quick as you can, I have accidently done something to my families Laptop, but because I have my own, they will be even more annoyed.

When I start-up windows, instead of the little tab saying (restoring windows) and stuff, this text comes up in white on a black background:

We apologise for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose 'Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous startup attempt was interrupted by a power failure or because the power or the reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem. Choose 'Start Windows Normally'.

Then it gives me five options, which are the following:

-Safe Mode
-Safe Mode with Networking
-Safe Mode with Command Prompt
-Last Known Good Configuration
-Start Windows Normally

I have tried each option, but this screen always comes back up at the same place, I really need help, so I am begging all of you Computer Wiz's to please help me quickly.

Regards,

Ryan

If no recent hardware or software changes were made immediately prior to the problem, then bad hardware is the probable cause. And unless you were messing around with the laptop's internals, then it's not your fault.
If you're unfamiliar or uncomfortable with disassembling and troubleshooting a laptop, then either ask a friend who has experience to help you, or have a repair shop take a look at it.

If you have a Windows XP CD, then use boot from that & chose to enter the recovery console by pressing R at the first screen.
Once in the recovery console type:
chkdsk /r
Let the checkdisk run, this may or may not help, but I have managed to recover several systems this way.
