Problem with Flash player versions...

For some reason something that I have changed today is making Flash sites think I don't have the latest player, however, when I then ckick the 'get the latest player' links from these sniffers, adobe says I do. Which I do, I know I do because all this was working fine yesterday. I have no idea what I 've changed, or how, or, more inportantly how to change it back.
I have Flash 8 Pro on my machine, but can view certain web content!!

Can any of you fine chaps point me in the right direction?
