I recently installed a refurbished RAD on a Modular ICS with 7.1 software and PRI. The RAD has supposedly already had the firmware upgrade but I can't seem to get through an entire back up without either dropping carrier or getting a software error indication. I have no trouble staying connected though when I'm using the remote set tool and I'm able to get through a complete back up with no problem at all when I'm on site. Anybody ever run into this before?

Yes they are a hit and miss when doing back up, my experience anywho.

Thanks Curly,

It's all PRI and the CSU stats are showing 100% error free, no errored seconds, no alarm indications or any other PRI related issues reported.

It's a refurbed RAD so it may have some sort of internal problem. I figure it's had the firmware upgrade though because I can stay connected indefinitely on the remote set tool with no problem other than an occasional command delay and that doesn't seem right.

It's almost as if the Norstar (which is also refurbed and recently installed) is choking up as it attempts to assemble and save the back up file.

I'm still scratchin' my head.

You might be able to prove by going to site and hooking laptop and see what happens....or even zap the latest firmware to it again just incase.
The best way to test for firmware is to see if works using a Target Line and auto answer (on the RAD) and not Operator assisted.

Mot sure if you have a lot of sites but your modem could be an issue as well or your lines, not theirs.

outta ammo

My guess irs the line rather than the RAD. If the PRI is connected to an IAD SIP to PRI converter, they're infamous for dropping packets on the SIP side. The PRI will still show error free. I've had some luck getting the carrier to set the DNIS that I use for the connection as G.711 rather than the usual G.729, which usually solves the problem. You could also try a slower connection speed on your computer - a couple of them I have to use 4800 baud on.

The RAD has it's own DID and it answers with no problem. I also have no problem backing up when on site.

My modem has no problem connecting and staying connected to other MICS systems with PRI.

I've tried backing the speed down but the RAD still connects at a higher speed. It's set for 9600 on the RAD end so I can connect directly when I'm on site.

The carrier is Cbeyond and they are running through what I thought was a standard Adtran type unit so I'm going to check to see if it's really an IAD SIP to PRI converter. I'll also see if they can set it to G.711.

Thanks for the help guys!
