I've encountered a problem in my PC. Basically, i can't perform the paste command after i've cut or copy certain files or words except in notepad application. After some troubleshooting, i've found out that explorer.exe is using 209200KB of Virtual memory which is unusually hugeee. i think that this is why i can't use the paste command. But i just don't know which app. in explorer is using those memories.
Can anyone help or suggest me how to excatly locate the application that is causing the problem.
My system:
413MB of free space out of 1.95GB.
Virtual memory settings-(Drive C)
Space avaliable: 523MB
inital size: 75MB
Max. size: 135MB

If U need any more info. feel free to ask, i will try my best to answer. thanks for reading .

How much RAM, which service pack, anything installed since service pack last run, PDC/BDC/Member, any Back Office loaded?

Go to task manager. view process list and try to get that list into a reply too if you can.

My PC has 64MB RAM.
Service pack version-768.
Mine is a stand-alone server.
I have recently installed three Astronomy software, TheSKY, CCD soft and Orchestrate.
i don't know what U mean by (any Back Office loaded?).Pls explain.
Note: After i installed TheSKY, my other program (Laplink) can't startup properly and i got a error(missing files) everytime i start the Window.

Thanks for your concern, Pls reply.I will attach the process list ASAP when i reach home.

Can U give me your E-mail address, so that i can send U my process list.

try having a fixed size for pagefile.sys by making the max. and min values same. it seems that you are running out of free space. try defragmenting your drive. did you see anything unusual in the event log reports ? if the size of explorer.exe is as large as you say, then you better scan your drive for viruses. also look out for rogue programs.. wiedersehn

Thanks for all your concern, but after 2 weeks of troubleshoot.........ing, i already decide to reinstall the operating system again.
Thanks again.

Your ability to paste from the clipboard is unrelated to your virtual memory settings. I doubt that reinstalling the OS will affect the problem since the problem isn't being caused by the OS. I'm not sure what is preventing you from pasting from the clipboard but you gave up too quickly.

The problem is probably caused by an errant application. It would be easy to write a program to replicate the problem and it shouldn't be much harder to find out which application is causing the problem.

First, check to see if the clipbard is receiving data. Highlight some text in a document and press Ctrl+C. Then click the start button, select "Run" and enter "clipbrd". That will tell you you if anything is actually on the clipboard. Go back to your document, position the cursor and press Ctrl+V.

If the Clipboard Viewer indicated that there was data on the clipboard and Windows doesn't insert the contents of the clipboard at the current cursor position when you press Ctrl+V, then you probably have one of two things:

1) A defective keyboard, or
2) An incidence of the Big Bad Word-Sucker Virus

Either problem should be relatively easy to repair without reinstalling Windows.
