Not sure if this is a Crystal or and Excel problem.

Essentially I have been asked to populate someone elses spreadsheet with some data I can get via an existing Crystal report.

To do this I have exported the report to an Excel file and then created VLookup formulas in the existing spreadsheet to return data related to product codes.

However this isn't working properly. For some reason around 50% of the codes that are in the raw data file are not being picked up and I'm getting error messages instead.

I don't know why this should be as I've used the exact same method before for different purposes without problems.

Any ideas where the fault is creeping in?

Tim

That just occurred to me and it solved the problem, however I don't understand why the problem only arose this time around. Both times I've been exporting from a string field but with seemingly different results.

Excel makes assumptions about the data type based on the 1st row. If you wish to control this, make sure the 1st row contains data values that are clearly a string (contain letters).

Cheers,
