Hi,

We use a spreadsheet that contains VBA code/macros. Recently, and particularly with users that are getting new laptops, the spreadsheet opens in Design mode, and doesnt run any VBA code.

If you then click "Exit Design Mode" from the VB toolbar, then following error appears:

"The macros in this project are disabled. Please refer to the online help or documentation of the host application to determine how to enable macros"

Anyone know whats causing this behaviour, and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

The security level is set to high - default after office installation (since 2k?). Change it to medium.

Hi,

Check Tools > Macros > Security.

They ought to have to CHOOSE TO enable Macros each time the workbook opens.

Check the macro security level:
menu Tools -> Macros -> Security

Hope This Helps, PH.

Hi,

The Security Setting is set to Medium.

I have also removed all the trusted sources, which should force the Security Warning dialog to appear when the document is opened.

The document still opens in design mode, with macro's disabled.

Chris

"...with macro's disabled."

If macros are disabled, then, guess what????

They are NOT ENABLED!!!

You must Enable Macros.

Skip,

You missed my point.

The Security Level is set to Medium, which means you should get prompted each time you open the document which contains macros. This is not happening.

If I set the security level to Low, then it works, but I am not prepared to do this for my users.

Chris

What version of excel ?

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

Hi,

you need to tag the option 'Trust access to Visual Basic projects' in the tab 'Trusted Sources' under macro security.

Cheers,

Roel

We are using Excel 2000.

The tick box 'Trust all installed add-ins and templates' is ticked on the Trusted sources tab.

Chris

Sounds like an issue with the laptop build - maybe a global policy that won't run macros unless low security or digital certified. Worth an ask of the peeps that are doing the new builds ?

Hi,

there should be another checkbox below the one you mentioned that also needs to be checked.

Cheers,

Roel
