I was using an LG L1730B monitor coupled with a 128mb Geforce 6600 GT pci-express videocard connected by an analog cable. Recently i purchased a dvi cable and when i connected it, the computer skipped the POST screen. it remained black until it reached the desktop. Also the resolutions that i could have chosen from dropped from about ten to just 3, 800x600, 1024x768 and 1280x1024. Even with these three i was restricted to just the 1024x768 resolution because when i changed it, the screen would go black and return to the previous resolution. I also have a problem with games, i double click on the icon and the screen goes black and i have to restart the computer.
Does anyone know what i am talking about? Is this normal? Is there a solution?

Unlike CRTs, TFT monitors have much reduced choices in resolutions when they are driven in digital mode. This is unfortunately the tradeoff for getting a more precise pixel positioning. But there shall be more than just three choices.
Check if LG has drivers for this monitor. Monitor drivers will update the monitor settings available to the graphics card driver to work with.
